A territory to discover
The Casteldoria agritourism and B&B on provincial road 92 (Perfugas – Santa Maria Coghinas) is located 5 km from the town of Santa Maria Coghinas, a village on the western bank of the Coghinas river; it is a municipality located in northern Sardinia along the provincial road that connects Castelsardo and the villages of Viddalba, Badesi and Trinita’ d’Agultu. It is 45 km from Sassari and 5 km from the most beautiful coastline of the Gulf of Asinara.
Our agritourism is located in a suggestive environment, immersed in nature at the foot of the massive Mount Ruju, no higher than 400 metres, with a splendid view of the Lake of Castel Doria, an artificial basin fed by the Coghinas river on the banks of which it is possible to lurk to admire some animal species, especially the many birds that nest there.
On the lake, there is an establishment for the exploitation of the thermal waters: these natural springs, called ‘li caldani’ by the locals, consist of hot water springs that reach 70° and merge with the Coghinas river, the river flows downstream digging a basin in Monte Ruju and Monte Ortigiu.
There is a small beach immersed in greenery among the palm trees and wild olive trees set between the pink granite walls, where it is possible to touch the warm water; the climate is made pleasant by the high temperature of the waters, so it is possible to bathe almost all year round and benefit from the mud taken from the river bed.
At the top of Mount Ruju stands the tower of the Doria Castle dating back to the 12th century, a precious witness to the Genoese domination of the Doria family. The structure consists of a single, massive tower with an irregular pentagonal plan. The Casteldoria agritourism and B&B is also located a few kilometres from Perfugas, which lies in the heart of Anglona, with a vast territory rich in archaeological evidence. Numerous artefacts dating back to the Palaeolithic period have been found, now preserved in the Archaeological Museum, and within the historic centre there is a Nuragic complex of which the Sacred Well of Predio Canopoli is part, in a perfect state of preservation. Also of interest are the Church of Our Lady of the Angels and the Church of San Giorgio.
Imposing and majestic, the splendid Retablo di San Giorgio is located inside the museum chapel of the Perfugas parish church. Of particular importance is the Archaeological Museum of Viddalba where archaeological finds unearthed in the excavations of the Punic-Roman necropolis of San Leonardo in Viddalba are exhibited. The mediaeval period is well represented by the church of San Giovanni, located in the immediate vicinity of San Leonardo, which is a precious testimony of 11th-century Roman architecture. The geographic position of our agritourism and B&B Casteldoria allows the tourist to reach some of Sardinia’s most beautiful and interesting localities in a very short time.
We are 10 km from the beach of Valledoria, in the Gulf of Asinara; we are also close to the characteristic town of Castelsardo and a short distance from the beaches of Badesi, Isola Rossa and Costa Paradiso. At the centre of the coast of northern Sardinia, halfway between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Porto Torres, one can reach Alghero, Stintino, Costa Paradiso and the Costa Smeralda and also visit places with cultural monuments such as the Nuraghe of Sant’ Antine the Necropolis of Anghelu Ruiu, the Basilica of Saccargia, Monte d’Accoddi, the Sacred Well, or natural monuments such as the Petrified Forest, the Caves of Neptune, the Baths of Casteldoria, the Elephant Rock and many more.
